Eleven hundred villagers in Pengtianyuan Village in Hunan, China, now have a functional bi-level dam that delivers drinking water to 240 households and 540 head of livestock. Thanks to Church World Service, the Amity Foundation, and Week of Compassion funding, a new supply of drinking water and irrigation to ensure food security in this village in Hunan, became reality early this year. Rebuilding the Caijiachong Dam, constructing connecting canals for irrigation, and installing water pipes to carry drinking water is helping the villagers have access to safe water. The increased water supply will add an extra planting and harvesting season (doubling local agricultural yields!) and delivering clean water directly into the villagers' houses improves the overall health of the villagers, as well helping to free up the women, who are traditionally charged with the time-consuming chore of fetching water, for other pursuits.
