CWS partner, Ecumenical Committee for Peace and Justice, runs a program called Lakay Espwa (Hope House) three afternoons a week in which these children (approximately 50) meet at a rented apartment in the popular neighborhood of Carrefour Feuille. There, the children receive training that includes sewing and embroidery, handicraft skills, literacy, and dance. Additionally, members of the host families meet with COPJ staff every two to three months to review the children's progress .
A new program Foyer Solidarite (Solidarity Home) has been initiated to help teenage mothers, 14 to 16 years old, living in the La Saline neighborhood (approximately 120 young women) overcome obstacles and acquire skills that will allow them to become breadwinners.
