CWS UN Office

August update: Tracking climate change focus at the UN

With direct access to 191 country representatives and over 20,000 accredited non-governmental organizations, the United Nations provides a unique opportunity for Church World Service to contribute to conflict resolution, promote sustainable development and advocate for economic and social justice. HIV/AIDS and human rights are among several issues that Church World Service addresses through the UN.

Through partnerships and coalitions, the Church World Service Office at the United Nations Church Center ensures that the interests and viewpoints of millions of the world's impoverished people—with whom and for whom we work—are heard in the halls of this world body.

The UN Office maintains relationships and communicates CWS perspectives through working groups, commissions and committees at UN conferences and meetings. The office works closely with other churches through the Ecumenical Working Group on the UN. The office also recommends policy through the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
