CWS Refugee Stories from Across the Decades:
Gebremicael Kidane, Eritrea -- 1990

In 1990, Gebremicael and Frewany Kidane and their young son, Bisrat, from Eritrea, resettled in the United States under CWS auspices. They were welcomed to Indianapolis, Indiana, by Exodus Refugee/Immigration, Inc., and cosponsor Allisonville Christian Church.

Bisrat quickly became a playmate of church members Marylinda and Curtis McCollister. “The church helped us with everything,” Gebremicael said. “I like them, and we respect each other. I’m glad if other churches help refugees like Allisonville helped us.”

Marylinda reported, “We still see them at church. Both parents are working. The father has a taxicab. They have four children now. They have made it.”
