Statistics on Uprooted Peoples - Asia and the Pacific

There were 3,869,700 refugees and asylum seekers in South, Central and East Asia and the Pacific as of December 31, 2006. Most of them came from other countries within this vast region.

Pakistan was host to 2,161,500 refugees from other countries; India to 435,900; Thailand to 408,400; China to 335,400; Bangladesh to 178,100, and Malaysia to 155,700.

Church World Service resettled 1,335 refugees from Indochina in Fiscal Year 2007 (Oct. 1, 2006-Sept. 30, 2007).
