"Before we fled, I had
five children. After we fled our village, I thought we could
move to another village. We were met by the police on the road.
The police questioned my 18-year-old daughter, Linda, bothering
her, saying, 'Why don't you speak Serbian?' They threatened
to take her. She was on the side of the road with the police;
I was on the other with the four younger children. My husband,
who is an invalid, wasn't with us at the time."
"They told us to go back to our village.
Linda remained on the side of the road. I came back to the village.
I did not see my daughter again. We found my husband and started
to walk with the others. We carried my husband over the mountains.
It took three days and nights. He had a nervous breakdown. He is
much worse since we crossed over. We don't know anything about
my daughter now. There are lots of missing persons."
