When to go: You can apply for a Social Security card any weekday (Monday through Friday) from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. You should go within the first week of arrival. Everyone in your family should go, but no appointment is necessary.
Important: Only two people in the family can apply per day, so the family members who are working should apply first. You will need to return later in the week for other family members to apply.
What to do: When you arrive, go to the computer on your right as soon as you walk into the office. Press “1” for new application and you will be issued a ticket with a number on it (example A 59). Fill out the applications that are found on the other side of the room while you wait for your number to be called.
What you need: Each person needs to take all of his/her documents if
they have them: passport, I-94 card, and Employment Authorization Card.
Where to go: The Social Security Office is located
in Greenfield Industrial Park at 1809 Old Homestead
Lane, Lancaster, PA 17601. It is located on the next street over from the Turkish Cultural
Center (in Greenfield Corporate Center). Get a map and/or
driving directions to the Social Security
Office by using Google
Maps.
Be prepared to wait 1-1 ½ hours. It is best to go during the late afternoon and to avoid going at the beginning and end of the month, on Mondays, and during lunch hour.
