Welcoming Refugees | Cuban/Haitian
Resettlement
Immigration Legal Services | Employment
Services | Matching Grants
The Matching Grant Program is funded by the U.S. Government and is intended as an alternative to welfare for eligible refugees, asylees, Cuban/Haitian entrants, certified victims of trafficking, and certain Amerasians.
Clients must be enrolled in the program within 31 days of arrival or of receiving status. The clients who are enrolled are given a monthly stipend and receive assistance in obtaining employment, on the condition that they not receive cash assistance from welfare, and that they participate fully in the employment search and attend English class.
We have been
allotted places for 95 participants in the program for 2008. Last year
we served families from Russia, Nicaragua, Burma, Cuba, Somalia, Lebanon,
Liberia the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Ukraine. Seventy three
percent of the employable clients were employed at the end of their
first six months.
