Collaboration

As Church World Service expands its important ministry to Africa’s most vulnerable people, we remain committed to working side by side with hundreds of international partner organizations around the globe. Our commitment to transparency, collaboration, and clear goals and objectives has enabled CWS to build a vast network of consultative and implementing partners.

As interest in reaching out to Africa has grown within CWS member communions and staff, we have convened several historic planning sessions with leaders across Africa. In this way, CWS has remained true to one of its central tenets, that effective mission is grounded in dignity and respect between mutual partners.

Out of these consultations in Africa and numerous conversations with U.S. church leaders, the Church World Service Board of Directors is launching the CWS Africa Initiative. The plan incorporates four geographic “cornerstones”:
• Angola
• Sudan
• Tanzania
• The Mano River Region of West Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone)

The Africa Initiative will address five critical areas of concern:
Peacebuilding
Displaced people
Hunger and poverty alleviation
Water
HIV/AIDS
