In January 2005, Billboard-charting U.S. musician Tim Janis teamed up with CWS to support a new education project in Kenya, entitled the School Safe Zones project, which aims to build up primary school education in Africa.
A key aspect of School Safe Zones project which inspired Janis was the program's specific and yet ambitious goals - in its initial stages, all efforts are focused on ten model schools in and around Nairobi, Kenya, with each school determining its greatest basic needs, from a water system, to school supplies, to teacher training. Combined with fundraising from within Kenya and the United States, the ultimate target is to prove that bettering primary school education in Africa is entirely possible and is a necessary step in producing a more promising future.
In addition to a four-year commitment from Janis to perform dozens of School Safe Zones benefit concerts in the United States, Janis created a new recording involving thousands of the students in the ten model schools, entitled "Children of the World." This recording will become the foundation for a fundraising album to benefit the School Safe Zones project.
