Dear friend,

Think about it. To help people gain the capacity to improve their lives and livelihoods. To become full-fledged partners in the processes affecting them – economic, social, and political. To be able to embrace the future with hope. It’s an idea so moving, so compelling, that it makes me want to stand up and cheer!

The equipping and, yes, the empowering of people is at the heart of Church World Service. Whether the challenge is chronic – long-term food shortage, bad water, lack of educational opportunities – or a crisis – a natural or human-caused disaster, or a combination of the two – Church World Service works in partnership to enable local communities to identify their needs and access the resources to address those needs and build a foundation for the future.

Global strides are being made. Still, chronic poverty and hunger continue to plague almost a billion people – and nip at the heels of millions more. With access to sustainable development resources, clean water, and education, people can realize their hopes and achieve their dreams. But we need to do more to provide the tools for empowerment. And we can, with your help.
