My name, Imani, means hope in Swahili. When a congregation co-sponsors a refugee family, it gives that family hope. How could you be a bearer of hope?
Day One: Has your family had to move to another town? Ask your parents about it.
Day Two: Go to the CWS website www.buildavillage.org and do the word search game - "Things many refugees have to leave behind."
Day Three: How many blankets are in your house? Decide on an amount per blanket, perhaps 10 cents, and give that money to support CWS.
Day Four: Ask your parents if any of your family members left another country to live in the United States. What were they able to bring with them? Were they ever able to return to their home country?
Day Five: Are there students in your school that come from another country? Ask them how it has been to get used to living in the United States.
Day Six: "If you want to travel fast, travel alone. If you want to travel far, travel together." Talk with your family about this African proverb. How does it apply to your family?
Day Seven: Pray for people who are in refugee camps hoping for a new home. Ask you parents if your congregation ever co-sponsored a refugee family? For more information about co-sponsoring a refugee visit the CWS website.
