The Spearmans consulted with their children and all agreed to sell the collection to benefit Church World Service. “We felt CWS would most effectively use it to stop hunger and misery in our world; and we have not regretted this decision for one moment.”
Jim and Marian Sanders of Modesto, California, sold their lovingly restored 1945 Ford Jeep GPW on eBay. A WWII veteran, Jim used to drive one during the war. He loved restoring it and displaying it at parades and veteran’s events, but notes, “The most exciting time I’ve had was selling it on eBay to help CWS — especially the last 30 minutes of the auction!”
George Gorton of Ware, Massachusetts, traveled to Bosnia and saw firsthand some of the projects supported by Church World Service. “One of the most impressive memories was seeing how something as simple as a set of tools in the hands of a blacksmith, or a chainsaw in the hands of three brothers, can create hope in the midst of abject poverty. The Church World Service e-Market is a simple but powerful way to enable projects that bring hope to many. It provides me a way to give to those who are in need.”
Since 1946, Church World Service has been reaching out to neighbors near and far providing disaster relief, sustainable development, and refugee assistance.
