A prayer for Palestinian peace
God of Grace and God of Glory,
We begin with the words of the familiar hymn as we pray:
Still your children’s warring madness,
Bend our pride to your control.
Unfetter our hearts, O God from the hatred and enmity that erupts in violent actions too often brother against brother. Quell the storm of raging hearts. May your peace and justice reign throughout the earth.
May your peace transcend despite our ability to fully understand. May your justice reign. A justice that takes no side, but manifests your truth and takes residence in the hearts of your humanity. Throughout every land, O God, may war cease and creation flourish.
And so we lift up in particular the burning passions of our Palestinian brothers and sisters during these days. Instill wisdom in the hearts of their leaders and the desire to live out choices that reflect the best interest of those in their care. May helpful coalitions across the globe be made toward this ongoing endeavor.
As we seek your will as source of peace, may we not just be witnesses of what transpires, but active participants in the work of peace and justice in the world.
In the name of the Redeemer we pray,
Amen.
