National Coordination Committee in Iraq Statement for reconciliation, national unity and an end to the violence

March 12, 2006

Baghdad / Amman

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Iraq call for reconciliation, national unity and an end to the violence.

Every day, dozens of innocent people who are not related to the conflict are killed in Iraq. On Saturday, one of them was identified as an aid worker.

  • NGOs in Iraq are calling for reconciliation and National unity in Iraq.

NGOs in Iraq would like to take this opportunity following this recent execution to strongly denounce the outbreak of violence in Iraq which is destroying and dividing Iraqi communities. This cycle of violence is against the interest of the population and for the personal advantage of few.

  • NGOs in Iraq call for the release of all aid workers and other innocent people still abducted or detained in Iraq.

NGOs in Iraq would like to remind all concerned that aid workers are present in the country to save lives of the local population and support Iraq’s recovery, not to be targeted. At least 50 other aid workers have been killed since 2003.

  • NGOs in Iraq call for the respect of Human Rights in Iraq.

NGOs in Iraq would like to present their condolences to the families of the victims, regardless of their origin and beliefs, of this blind violence.
