CWS situation report: 2007 Texas flooding update

July 23, 2007

  • Seventeen counties are federally-declared disaster area, with more expected

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency census indicates at least 463 homes destroyed in 46 affected counties

  • There are at least 3,484 FEMA registrations for assistance in 46 affected counties

Vunerable Communities Watch

Counties with high FEMA assistance registrations also have high poverty levels:

  • Cooke County (630 applications, 13.4 percent of community below poverty level)

  • Grayson County (695 applications, 13.6 percent of community below poverty level)

  • Tarrant County (470 applications, 12.8 percent of community below poverty level)

  • Grayson, Cooke Counties appear to have significant numbers of undocumented immigrants affected

CWS Response

  • Emergency Response Specialists Heriberto Martinez and Lesli Remaly-Netter will deploy from July 26 to August 3 to provide preliminary overview training to leaders of emerging long-term recovery groups and plan three to four day-long comprehensive trainings on the long-term recovery process

  • An appeal will be issued in support of material resources, training, project support and emergency response grants
