DRRL Activity Roundup

Disaster Response and Recovery Liaison (DRRL) Charlie Moeller is presenting the CWS DRRL program and domestic response to the members of the CWS Board in Miami next week.

DRRL Tim Johnson will be training with the Progressive National Baptist Church regional gathering in Wilmington, Del., March 21. Tim will present "Faith Community Roles in Disaster Response and Long-term Recovery." Other presenters will include representatives from American Red Cross and CWS ERP Associate Director Linda Reed Brown.

DRRL Lesli Remaly will be a presenter at the National Farmworker Annual Conference March 20-21 in Atlanta. Lesli will be speaking on the issue of preparedness and VOAD; she then travels to conduct another training on long-term recovery in Mississippi.

DRRL Joann Hale, who has expertise in technology-caused disaster response, will meet March 16-18 in New Orleans with local representatives of the faith community and experts in hazardous materials. Coordinating the meeting is Florence Coppola, United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries. The UCC is a CWS partner in this specialized ministry. Other participants will include DRRL Lura Cayton, who will represent the perspective of local recovery groups and volunteer coordination agencies, and Linda Reed Brown, ERP Associate Director.

CWS Sends School Kit Shipment to New Orleans

CWS has sent 510 CWS “Gift of the Heart” School Kits, with a value of $6,630, to St. John Faith Church in New Orleans as part of the ongoing response to Hurricane Katrina.
