Diakonie, CWS tour Hurricane Katrina programs
To assist with youth-oriented programs following Hurricane Katrina, an anonymous benefactor provided Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and CWS with a $1.35 million grant. Diakonie Director Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel (left) and CWS Emergency Response Specialist Lura Cayton (right) toured some of the programs funded in Louisiana and Mississippi on October 8 and 9. The German-based organization asked CWS to coordinate and distribute the grant to schools and youth-at-risk programs on the Gulf Coast.
CWS training, networking in Michigan
CWS Emergency Response Specialist Joann Hale provided leadership to a training
event for Michigan's State Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster October
10. CWS joined the United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, the American
Red Cross, International Aid, Lutheran Social Services and others in finding
ways to network and prepare for disasters. Hale also met with the staff at the
Lansing, Mich. CROP office to discuss ERP domestic work.
Remaly-Netter says goodbye
Emergency Response Specialist Lesli Remaly-Netter has begun a new position with
the Coordinated Assistance Network (CAN) under the auspices of American Red
Cross after six years with CWS. CAN is a national data software that helps disaster
response organizations coordinate assistance delivery to disaster survivors.
