CWS, UCC Update 'The Silent Disaster'
Representatives from CWS and the United Church of Christ (UCC) joined in St. Louis Nov. 26 to update βThe Silent Disaster,β a guide for the faith community's response in technological catastrophes. Emergency Response Specialist (ERS) Joann Hale, UCC National Disaster Ministries Executive Director Florence Coppola, former CWS staffer Linda Reed Brown and others expanded the guide to include more details about health and safety issues for volunteers. This was the publication's second update.
CWS Invited to Address Disabilities in Disaster
The non-profit, government-training organization
Government Horizons and the National Organization on Disability
has invited CWS to present on a special panel: β Disability and
Special Needs Technical Assistance (Emergency Preparedness, Response
and Recovery),β January 8 and 9 in Washington, D.C. ERS Hale will
address aspects of emergency management planning and response for
people with disabilities and special needs. More information is

Material Resources Update
CWS recently fulfilled material resources requests to domestic and international partners. They include:
- Appalachian Outreach, in Glen Dale, W.V., which received 210 CWS Blankets, 510 CWS Baby Kits, 270 CWS School Kits and 2,025 CWS Hygiene Kits for needy populations. Value of the shipment is $49, 215.
- Medical Teams International, receiving
a shipment at the request of CWS partner International Orthodox
Christian Charities. The shipment, made to Medan, Indonesia,
includes 3,750 CWS Baby Kits and 10,000 CWS Health Kits at
a value of $269,070.
