CWS Staff Offer Presentation on Emergencies and Displacement
ERP Staffers Chris Herlinger and Matt Hackworth joined Michael Neuroth, CWS representative to the United Nations, to offer a presentation on human displacement within the context of emergency response. The session was part of the Presbyterian UN Office Doctor of Ministry January Term course, The Church in a World of Displaced Persons, held at the UN Church Center.
CWS leads training on humanitarian standards
CWS staff from the Pakistan/Afghanistan office led 31 representatives from nine
countries in a workshop on implementing the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum
Standards in Disaster response, commonly known as the Sphere Standards. Now
more than 10 years old, the Sphere project provides non-governmental organizations
worldwide with a standard for quality and accountability.
CWS Examines Challenges of Disabilities in Disasters
Emergency Response Specialist Joann Hale joined representatives from the National
Organization on Disability, the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department
of Justice and others to discuss the challenges of addressing disability issues
in emergent disaster situations. “This was a great chance for CWS to build relationships
and examine potential partnerships for the future,” Hale said.
Material Resources Update
CWS recently provided 4,000 CWS Blankets and 1,170 CWS School Kits to CWS local
partner Christian Care in Harare, Zimbabwe. The shipment is valued at $33,981.
