CWS, ACT meet in Toronto
ERP Director Donna Derr and Communications Officer Chris Herlinger attended meetings of the North American Action by Churches Together (ACT) International members Jan. 23-25 in Toronto, Ont. Derr represented CWS as one of the North American representatives on the ACT Emergency Committee, while Herlinger helped convene the ACT North America emergency communicators. Also representing CWS was CWS Communications Director Anne Walle.
Planning progresses for 2008 Disaster Forum
Dozens of registrations have come in for this year's CWS forum on domestic disaster ministry. Under the theme “Economics and Justice in Disasters,” the gathering March 29 through April 1 in Nashville, Tenn. will include topics such as worker justice, curbing post-disaster predatory lending, expanding housing opportunities and global warming.
Material Resources Update
Recent CWS material resource shipments include:
- To CWS partner Mercy Corps, 8,640 CWS School Kits and 8,645 CWS Hygiene Kits to Mongolia, at a value of $234,775;
- To CWS partner Church Aid Liberia, 7,020 CWS Hygiene Kits at a value of $77,220;
- To CWS partner Christian Care in Zimbabwe, nearly 4,000 CWS Blankets and 1,170 CWS School Kits, at a value of $33,981.
