CWS Emergency Clean-up Buckets urgently needed
Recent floods across the central U.S. again highlight the need for CWS Emergency Clean-up Buckets. Demand has eclipsed supply of these vital items as CWS tries to meet the needs of damaged communities. Assembling kits are a great project for any church or community group.
Flooding in Arkansas prompted a request from the Arkansas Presbytery for 96 CWS Emergency Clean-up Buckets, which was fulfilled at a value of $4,320.
Domestic Disaster Forum set for this weekend
Nearly 60 participants will gather at Nashville's Scarritt-Bennett Conference Center Saturday for the bi-annual CWS Domestic Disaster Forum. Participants in this year's event will focus on how best to address issues of economics and justice in disasters.
The Silent Disaster soon to be released
CWS and the United Church of Christ have completed the final draft updating The Silent Disaster, a guide for disaster ministry in human-caused catastrophes. The publication re-examines chronic problems, such as pollution, and makes the differences in responding to natural disasters and technological disasters clear. The latest update will be printed and distributed in May.
