The Gospel of John tells of a Samaritan woman who meets Jesus when he is thirsty. The Gospel encounter takes place at a well not far from the village where Anas lives today. Last year, CWS commissioned Bethlehem carpenter Nabil Bahboun to represent the scene in a small olive wood carving. CWS is distributing thousands of these tokens to raise awareness of -- and funds to end -- hunger and poverty. Clean, accessible water is vital if those goals are to be met.
The Woman At the Well, as depicted in this olive wood carving by Palestinian craftsman Nabil Baboun, includes the outline of a traditional Palestinian pear-shaped cistern and a stylized water drop.
