In Iraq, Church World Service and seven partners helped provide clean water to 41,000 residents of the poor neighborhood of Hay Tariq following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Water and sanitation systems were destroyed or compromised by the 1990 Gulf War and 12 years of UN sanctions, contributing to the deterioration of the health, nutrition, and general well being of Iraqi children.
