In the past year, Church World Service Pakistan/Afghanistan (CWS-P/A) has trained over 2,000 school teachers on disaster preparedness. Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad is one of them.

During the assessment visit carried out by the CWS-P/A team in the aftermath of the South Asia earthquake, they met Mushtaq Ahmad. He was one of the participants who had attended the Disaster Preparedness Teachers Training (DPPT) conducted by CWS-P/A in Mansehra. Mushtaq said that during the earthquake he was able to practically apply his learnings from the workshop. Mushtaq said that when the earthquake struck he was in his school teaching his students. During the earthquake he was quickly able to evacuate a majority of the schoolchildren and fellow teachers. He said that because of DPTT he was able to save not only his own life, but also the lives of his students and fellow teachers.

CWS-P/A has been active in Mansehra for the past twenty years and currently has over 70 staff and volunteers in the Mansehra area.
