Recovery in Indonesia - Family ties
While the home of Basariah, 50, was somewhat damaged, her brother Arahman, 45, lost his home, his fishing boat, and his livestock in the December 2004 tsunami. Arahman lives in the village of Meue, in Aceh province, Indonesia, one of the villages where CWS is helping the community to rebuild homes and livelihoods.
“My house was totally destroyed--nothing was left,” says Arahman. “My family and I are eager to get into our new home.” CWS has also provided new fishing boats for Arahman and the other fishermen of the village. Basariah, who bicycles over for a visit from her nearby village perhaps once or twice a week, says she is pleased and thankful to see the recovery her brother and his family are making.
