Recovery in Indonesia - Overcoming loss
Zainal Arifin, of the Kampung Mulia (“noble village”) neighborhood of Banda Aceh, Indonesia, lost his wife, his two children, and his sister in the December 2004 tsunami. CWS provided basic relief supplies to his neighborhood -- things like CWS “Gift of the Heart” Health Kits, tents, mattresses, blankets.
Formerly captain of a commercial fishing boat, now Zainal fishes from a small boat he named Hidup Damai (“live in peace”). “This life is short, and we should live in peace,” says Zainal, based on his personal experience. “After the tsunami, this is the sentiment that is coming from my heart for my neighbors, my neighborhood,” he says.
