We walk because they must walk

We walk because they must walk is what 5th and 6th grade campers learned at Camp Mimanagish -- Place of the Singing Waters -- on the Boulder River, in Montana this past summer. A ministry of the Montana-Northern Wyoming UCC Conference, the camp broke with traditional camp activities and had the youngsters role-play, receiving a few basic supplies and carrying water and firewood. The campers got a taste of what life is like for refugee families and many others around the globe who must walk to survive -- and they raised almost $400 for CWS water programs. Architect of this non-traditional camp experience was Camp Director Nancy Staigmuller, who hopes to repeat the activity at this year’s camp.
