U.S. Farm Bill and Hunger

A farmer gets just seven cents for the wheat in the loaf of bread that costs $1.27 at the store. Low crop prices to small-scale farmers in the U.S. are propped up by commodity subsidies that seem to most often benefit a few giant agribusinesses. The agricultural policies in the current U.S. Farm Bill increase hunger in developing countries, where many people survive on a dollar a day, often through subsistence farming. This year a new Farm Bill will be passed. CWS has launched a campaign to reform farm policy and support sustainable agriculture, rural development, and better nutrition programs.

A publication and action postcard are available to order online.
