New York Quilters Sew 548 School Bags
When Church World Service issued a special appeal for School Kits last spring, CWS Upstate New York staff person May Arnett challenged the Quilters Consortium of New York State’s member quilt guilds and businesses to make school bags. At the Consortium’s December delegate meeting 548 beautiful school bags were collected!
The Compeer Quilting Bee met the challenge and sewed 47 of the bags. This non-profit agency serves individuals with mental illness and mental health issues in the Rochester area. “The Quilting Bee works on skill-building and teaches quilting as a therapeutic program,” says J. Charmaine Bennett, Quilting Program Coordinator.
