Local affiliate agencies are essential partners with Church World Service in refugee protection and assistance. CWS relies on its affiliates to help resettle some 5,000 new refugee arrivals to U.S. communities each year.
These agencies work hand-in-hand with seven participating denominations, local congregational cosponsors, and volunteers to ensure that the newcomers have food, clothing, and other essentials along with friendship and guidance as they learn English, find their way around town, enroll their children in school, look for work, and quickly become self-sufficient. Most affiliates also provide immigration legal services; a number offer such other services as assistance to asylum seekers, programs for survivors of trafficking or torture, and microenterprise.
