Hopeful Harvest

Kountaabo, population 8,000, is in a poor and heavily-deforested region of the West African nation of Burkina Faso. Rainfall is erratic... crops often fail. Every year is marked by a lean period lasting up to three months, when food stocks run out prior to the next harvest.

The Tools & Blankets Program is helping some 80 women and their families in Kountaabo increase their food security. The women are learning about gardening for dry-season food production, and are receiving garden tools, along with a concrete-lined well and a water pump for irrigation, and fencing to protect their garden from wandering animals. With their harvests, the women will be able to nourish their families through the lean times and generate a modest income by selling their surplus in the local market.

For your free Tools & Blankets Kit, please call 1-888-CWS-CROP (that's 1-888-297-2767) or order online.
