One who is full does not understand the wants of the hungry. Irish
Proverb
Our world's resources are not distributed fairly.
Some lack enough to live, others have vastly more than they need.
These activities raise the question: How do we build a world of
enough? Use the CWS Facts
Have Faces series available from your CWS
Regional Office (1-888-CWS-CROP, 297-2767) or material from
the CWS Hotline (1- 800-297-1516,
ext. 111) to show how Church World Service is responding.
Use: Minute for Mission, youth group, launching
a CROP Hunger Walk or Recruiter's Orientation
Preparation: ten people, ten chairs, boom
box, music
Time: Five minutes
Invite each person to sit in a chair. They represent
the population of the earth. The chairs represent the earth's resources.
If those resources are divided equally, there's more than enough
for all. Play the music once and then stop. See? Everyone has a seat!
But the resources of the world are not distributed
equally.
Where would the following young women be seated?
They are forced to work 9-10 hours a day, seven days a week,
earning as little as six cents an hour in the Keyhinge factory
in Vietnam making popular giveaway promotional toys, many of which
are Disney characters for McDonald's Happy Meals.
National Labor Committee
Where would your family be seated? How can we begin
to build a world that works for all people? Describe some of the
work of CWS.
